The wild, the hot, the subtropics and everything in between.
#WeekiWachee#Florida : I find it tough to live here sometimes. The heat can be so oppressive. It just bears down on you, slows you. Walking out into it, breaching the aperture of the front door, it feels like it has a texture to it, it feels like a wall. THIS was not one of those days. When the weather begins to turn during fall and spring, it is absolutely stunning. This is one of @ljade28 ‘a favorite places. I’m very thankful for this. It’s drawn me back to this spot more often over the last few months. It’s a true paradise. The water stays cool all year around, spring fed, and it carries you through the canopy. It’s emerald clear. #Manatees float beneath you. Aquatic life rides the currents. I love it here. I love the company I’m with. It was another good day... . . Where’s your paradise? What spot on this planet brings you back? Again and again? #vsco#vscoadventure#vscotravel
#WeekiWachee#Florida : Life explodes in the #sun. It’s energy transfers and stores inside all of us. When #fire burns through a natural space, much like what is happening to our neighbors in #California with the treacherous #wildfires that they’re experiencing, the energy of the fire is merely a transitioning of the sun’s power, stored in those plants and flora, being released as flame. It’s remarkable, it’s powerful, and almost everything on this earth needs the sun. The summer heat can be oppressive, but in these parts — these wild areas of Florida — the water, sun, and soil combine to create a wonderfully exciting ecosystem. We float by, the wilds flanking us for hours. Dragonflies periodically ride our boards, aquatic grasses bend in the current, lilies spill out into the elbows of the winding river. THIS is Florida... It was another good day... . . Where do you store your power? Do you let it run free? What is your release? #vsco#vscotravel#vscoadventure
#WeekiWachee#Florida : It’s a slow groove here. There aren’t any rapids. You float on the breeze, as do the bees and dragonflies. An occasional heron stands frozen in time, I try not stare to much...I’m sure my presence is interrupting a glorious hunt. Banana spiders hang from webbed hammocks in the trees up above, rays of sun fingering through the leaves, the light glittering and shifting with the swaying trunks. This feels, in many ways, much like Florida on many levels. It was another good day... What defines your environment? How would you describe it? #vscotravel#vscoadventure#vsco#water#florida
#WeekiWachee#Florida : The summer passes us by, but it’s memory is still with present. The air is still warm. The breeze is refreshing, but not cold. The rest of the nation descends into darker nights and wind chill from the north, but Florida holds the line...the last of the #tropics that cap the Caribbean, standing strong against the harsher weather of our neighbors. We float down the river. The locals climb the trees with a learned knowledge of each loosely nailed step and knobby hand-hold. They jump with ease, and without fear, down into the emerald water. I follow suit. It’s a playground. I still feel young. I’m not sure how true that it is. The river carries us further...memories of summer still bearing fruit in the present. It was another good day... . . What sticks with you? In what ways are you fading? #Delray#Florida : In many ways, Florida’s story is intimately tied with water. As the ice ages froze over and then dissipated, the coast line of this peninsula changed dramatically — a hundred or more miles in each direction during the Pleistocene era. There were deserts here where tortoises the size of VW bugs roamed. When the ice befell this land, mammoths strolled the frozen plains. Our landscape is intimately tied to water and the water is different dependent on where you go. The #Gulf side is mellow— the slow coast, the nature coast. Birds and people alike, they walk with ease in the small swells of the western waters. The East coast, on the other hand, is aggressively more active. The Atlantic carries a much higher tonnage of water. With it comes horseshoe crabs and surfers. Some of the best #surfers on the planet hail from #Florida’s east coast. The water is colder hear, originating from much deeper depths,; and from lands far different than our own. I like the thrash of the water. I like to feel it’s power. It’s primordial. Some distant ancestral excitement and internal alarm wants to pull me back. Some distant ancestral part of me wants to be here, likes the water pushing and weighing against my skin. We all come from water, the womb that holds us at birth. Florida is held in the same way, almost all sides connected to the water, defined by the flow. It was another good day... . .
